Remember The Cross: The Build Up (Palm Sunday)
During the time that Jesus walked the Earth, His people were being oppressed by the ruthless Roman empire. The Jews desire for the promised Messiah was very great among the people, but many didn’t view Jesus as the Savior the God of Abraham promised.
He didn’t fit what they thought the Messiah would be.
He worked on the Sabbath, hung out with unsavory characters, spared the lives of those who were caught in the act of sin. He didn’t refute the claims that He was the Son of God. He even implied that he was the King of Israel. He told people their sins were forgiven as if He had the authority to make such a statement. All of which went against the Jewish doctrine.
For those who did believe Jesus was the Messiah thought He was going to wage war on the Roman empire and bring the Hebrew people out of bondage. These people were excited when they heard Jesus was coming to town. I bet some of them even thought, “oh, it’s on. Jesus is coming to town, He’s got something for y’all”
They gather palms and shouted “hosanna, in the highest,” as Jesus pass by on a donkey still thinking the Savior would judge and defeat their enemies.
They built Jesus up, only to tear Him down less than a week later, voting to crucify Him and But Jesus took it all in strides for He knew all the things that had to take place if humanity were to have redemption.
As you reflect on Palm Sunday and Jesus’ path to the cross today, remember how the King of Kings entered your life, not with destruction and judgment, but with love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
If you don’t know Jesus as Savior and Lord, but you hear Him knocking at the door of your heart and you want to know Him better, all you have to do is say this prayer and believe the words in your heart then salvation is your and the transformation begins.
